Description

Biota Bloodshot Zoanthid (Zoanthus sp.) – SINGLE POLYP

Some zoanthids are more finicky and slower growing than others; this can make some varieties quite rare. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the rare “collector” varieties that exhibit unusually attractive markings are highly sought after. The Bloodshot Zoanthid is a great example of this. This variety is a real prize for any zoanthid enthusiast. Emerald green tentacles surround an inner purply red mouth with a signature dark dash through the center. These zoanthids prefer medium to high lighting and moderate flow. Zoanthid corals often carry a potent toxin which can be life-threatening if exposed to the bloodstream, and this variety is no exception; therefore, gloves always must be worn when handling it!

While the exact origin of this variety is unclear, zoanthids such as these often inhabit fringe environments such as back reefs, rubble zones and intertidal flats across the Indo-Pacific Ocean.
