The Ultimate Marine Snow Simulation for Filter-Feeders: Nourish the entire reef—from copepods to corals—with PNS YelloSno™

The water columns of marine environments—even the relatively clear waters over tropical coral reefs—can become littered with tiny bits of suspended organic matter. On reefs, this material may wash in from adjacent habitats or accumulate locally from animal feces, expelled coral mucus, copepod exoskeletons, etc. While not particularly wholesome by themselves, these particulates are nutritionally enriched as they are colonized by various types of heterotrophic bacteria.

Particles consolidate as the musilage secreted by resident microbes causes them to become sticky; this reduces their buoyancy and causes them to slowly sink. Such aggregations are referred to as marine snow. Suspended and settled marine snow is an important food source for filter-feeders and detritivores respectively. Purple nonsulfur bacteria (PNSB), which are highly digestible and nutritious, are known to be commonly associated with marine snow.

Composed of an all-natural chitin substrate that mimics copepod exoskeleton fragments and coated with purple nonsulfur bacteria, PNS YelloSnoâ„¢ effectively simulates a marine snowfall. With a wide particle size range, this product may be captured and consumed by a large variety of suspension-feeding animals (e.g. corals). It is rich in protein, vitamins and amino acids. Just following a curing process, PNS YelloSnoâ„¢ is preserved for a long shelf life by flash pasteurization.

PNS YelloSnoâ„¢ is specially formulated for use in saltwater aquaria. And, it is completely safe, non-toxic and non-pathogenic. PNSB may vary in color from yellow to red to purple depending upon pigment content; product color may vary from yellow to dull orange. Enriched by its coating of microbes and their biofilm, marine snow is a highly nutritious food source for corals and filter-feeding invertebrates. PNS YelloSno™ replicates a marine snowfall, delivering B vitamins and bioavailable minerals and trace elements to aquarium inhabitants ranging from copepods to clams to corals–even certain groups of beneficial bacteria. Compared to similar types of prepared reef aquarium diets, PNS YelloSno™ has the following advantages:

Directions and Usage for PNS YelloSnoâ„¢:

Keep refrigerated. Treats 500 gallons. Suggested dosage is 1.0 mL/gal/day; however, dosage may be safely increased/decreased incrementally to suit individual needs. May be mixed with other coral foods/suspension diets (scan QR code on bottle to review special feeding instructions). Alternatively, may be used to ‘prime’ corals (eliciting polyp extension) prior to main feeding. Disperse broadly into the water from an area of moderate flow. For optimal results, remove/bypass mechanical filter media for one hour following each dose.

Best coral food

This is my standard coral food. Always a bottle in the frig.

I have tried other foods but, this seems to be the best.

Absolutely Fantastic!

The happiness of my copepods multiplied by 10 - almost overnight population increase! This has a great potential benefit of supplying heterotrophic purple bacteria (non-sulphur) with B12 as well, enabling increased nitrogen/ nitrate etc, processing. Brilliant product!

1st dose it worked but after bottle was opened the rest of bottle turned rancid

I actually saw it work…opened a fresh bottle with an expiration date 4 months down the road…so the first dose was cool just like advertised I did a night lights off application and used a flashlight to check it out and I saw what looked like ‘snow flakes’ all over and around in my 90 gallon reef tank. The next day my corals and polyps were all excited and looked the healthiest I’ve ever seen…so I was looking forward to the next dose 3 days later…well I pulled out the tightly closed refrigerated bottle that I shook lightly a few times a day. Well it looked a darker color and stunk more but I still dosed the tank the same way…so get this lol (actually not funny) I had no happy ‘snow flake experience and my tank was brown cloudy the next day my corals were pissed and looked sick for a week even with a 20% water change and I had UV sterilizer protein skimmer and sump with healthy refugium working overtime to try and get everything back to it’s normal happy self. So I still have the bottle in my fridge it doesn’t expire for 4 months…I’m throwing the rest away not going to do this to my tank again

Stuff smells like egg farts but the feeding reaction from my coral was 100%

I’ve just started using this product, so in one sense - it’s too early to write a review. I keep several corals that need to be fed - scleronepthea, stereonepthea, NPS gorgonians etc.

I’ve been using oceanmajik mixed with newly hatched brine shrimp for a while with good results. At this point I’m going to alternate using the Yellosno and the brine shrimp mixed with oceanmajik.

I’ll try to get on here after several months to add to share my results.
