Supplements and Fertilizers
Every organism in your saltwater aquarium from the clownfish to the copepods produces ammonia in the form of metabolic waste. Ammonia is highly poisonous and harmful to corals, fish, and all marine life. It can add up fast over time, which would make your aquarium not suitable for marine life. supplements and fertilizers for your tank can help with this. The build-up of ammonia in aquariums and in the wild does no occur and only exists and small amounts that cause little harm. This can be accredited to nitrifying bacteria, which is the bacteria hobbyists want to grow and expand in their tank during its beginning stages. What starts as ammonia, is turned into nitrite by ammonia-oxidizing species of the bacteria. The nitrite is then turned into nitrate by nitrite-oxidizing bacteria. Nitrate is less harmless compared to nitrite and ammonia. This process is often called “cycling” and will generally happen in your tank no matter what you do to it. It is an inventible natural occurrence. It is a wonderful thing that makes aquarium keeping possible, but there is one issue. It takes time and sometimes it takes a lot of time. It can be a slow process that involves weeks even months of testing water and doing water changes. There several ways to speed up this process. It was once popular and common for hobbyists to add a tester fish or dead organics to create ammonia and get the cycle started. These old methods are outdated and no longer as popular, especially with the emergence of bottled bacteria and inorganic nitrogen. Bottled bacterial supplements and fertilizers such as TurboStart 900 makes it very easy to introduce that beneficial nitrifying bacteria. It is a much more efficient way to cycle a tank. AlgaeBarn sells both TurboStart 900 and an inorganic nitrogen solution called NitroCycle. These wonderous products can be bought separately or together in the Aquarium Cycle Kit. Thanks to these products, you can now cycle a completely new aquarium in as little as five days!
