Galaxy Pods Product Info:

Each of the five copepod species in Galaxy Pods (Tigriopus californicus, Tisbe biminiensis, Apocyclops panamensis, Oithona colcarva and Euterpina acutifrons) fulfills a valuable role in the captive environment. Because of each species’ differences in size and habit, this product performs better than any one or two or three of the species by themelves. Together they consume detritus and film algae, boosting the efficiency of any clean-up crew. In addition to consuming detritus and dissolved organic matter, purple nonsulfur bacteria (PNSB) contribute to a balanced nitrogen cycle. The naturally occurring and highly beneficial microbes in PNS ProBio efficiently sequester excess ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. They can also perform denitrification in anaerobic habitats; yet more, where sources of inorganic nitrogen have been depleted, they are capable of performing nitrogen fixation. That last characteristic is significant, as recent research has revealed that PNSB form important mutualistic associations with stony corals, providing both the coral animal and its zooxanthellae with a continuous, on-site source of nutrients. All types of coral have been shown to directly consume PNSB, which are rich in protein, vitamins and color-enhancing carotenoids. They even act as powerful probiotics!

Cerith Snail Product Info:

As the habitat engineers of the Tank Booster Pack, cerith snails are hardy little clean-up animals that are a great addition to any tank. This omnivore eats a variety of foods ranging from detritus to hair algae. It is a burrower, turning over the substrate well to promote a clean/highly oxygenated upper sand bed as well as clearing algae from the tank panels just below the substrate surface. As it prefers to forage at night, it may not always be seen during the daylight hours. Remaining at a fairly small size, it can get into tighter areas of the rockwork that other snails cannot. It is known for being relatively long-lived in captivity (especially these captive-bred specimens!).

Clean Chaeto Product Info:

Macroalgae such as Chaetomorpha spp. are widely (and rather effectively) used to enhance environmental conditions in reef aquaria. This hardy green macroalgae is included in the Tank Booster Pack to create biogenic microhabitat for small benthic critters such as copepods and amphipods. It grows in long, curvy, rigid strands that create a framework with ample inner space that provides shelter for a diversity of microfauna. Chaeto is popularly used in refugia and algae scrubbers, where dense masses of the plant can be kept with minimal packing. Clean Chaeto is treated, quarantined, and maintained in its own system to remove any unwanted parasites and hitchhikers.
