Description
ORA Purple Nana Acropora
Because of the rarity of some coral strains, they often have interesting backstories. For example, the ORA Purple Nana (Acropora nana) actually originated from the home tank of Kelly Hunter (one of their first employees). It was released for sale in 2003, but was lost down to a single specimen during the 2004 hurricane season after selling only 100 pieces. However, stock of this beautiful Acropora variety was regrown and put back into full-scale production by 2009. So, the reef community now has a relatively limited but very steady supply of the strain! It is a real stunner with its coppery base coloration with vivid purple tips and brown to nearly white polyps. In some conditions, the purple may extend further from the tips and the polyps may take on a greenish tint. While the ORA Purple Nana resembles A. valida in coloration, it features finer branches.

The Benefits of Farmed Purple Nana Acropora
Captive-bred livestock offers a huge advantage over wild-caught specimens. Because it is cultured in captivity, it is better adapted to living in an aquarium, tends to be more disease resistant and harbors fewer pests. It is also better able to handle shipping/acclimation stress! By purchasing captive-bred Purple Nana corals, you support the aquaculture of marine organisms and help to make our hobby more sustainable.
