ORA® Regal Demoiselle

Description

Like other damselfish, the Regal Demoiselle is very hardy and tolerant of disease. It is even hardier because it is captive-bred by ORA. Captive-bred fish are better adapted to aquarium life and far less likely to carry disease. This is because they are born and raised in captivity, so they aren’t exposed to as many fish as wild-caught fish are. They are middle of the road when it comes to size compared to other damselfish, growing to a maximum size of 3.75 inches. They are larger than a Yellow Tail Damselfish, but not as large as a Domino Damselfish or a Four Stripe Damselfish. The Regal Demoiselle has a grayish black body with bright yellow on the tail fin and on the back of the dorsal fin. The tail fin will grow to be an elegant lyre tail, separating it from other damselfish. What truly makes this fish special is when it schools. With a large enough tank, you can keep a beautiful school of these fish. They are actually best if kept in a school. Keeping a school of fish is not easy, but intermediate to advanced hobbyists should be able to do it. Although a single Regal Demoiselle can be kept in a 30 gallon tank, you will need a much larger tank because, again, this fish likes to be in a school. You need to have quite a bit of fish to be even close to a school.

Feeding: Herbivore. While Regal Demoiselle will eat flake food and pellets, they should also be fed herbivore preparations and meaty foods. Feed higher quality food or live food for a healthier, more vibrant fish.
