ORA Blue Chalice
Due to an influx of fabulously colored wild specimens, the popularity of chalice corals (Echinopora spp.) rose sharply around a decade ago. Chalices remain in high demand to this day, albeit with many more captive propagated options available. The ORA Blue Chalice is an exceptionally beautiful farmed Echinopora. Like many chalices, this plating coral similar in structure to Montipora capricornis: It does however differ substantially in that it is thicker, curvier and takes on a more flattened, encrusting form. Despite its thicker structure, the skeleton is fairly fragile; moreover, the living tissue is delicate and easily damaged. The gorgeous colors of this strain vary from pink-tan (under sunlight) to baby blue to blue-mauve (under higher Kelvin lighting). This fast-growing coral requires a bit of growing space since it spreads mainly outward; this ensures that it cannot sting neighboring corals at night with its sweeper tentacles. The ORA Blue Chalice may be kept at any tank level under medium-high lighting with moderate-strong water flow.
