Description
The Flameback Angelfish originates from Africa, but the specimen sold here are captive-bred by ORA. It has a navy blue body with a golden yellow head. The yellow arcs and cuts across the blue as it continues down the top of the fish near the dorsal fin. The dorsal fin is also yellow with a faint blue outline, while the anal fin is blue with some hints of yellow. This fish is best kept in an aquarium of at least 50 gallons. If you want to keep more than one, you will need an aquarium of at least 100 gallons, however this is something that requires caution. If you want to keep this fish will another Flameback Angelfish or any other Pygmy Anglefish, be sure to add them at the same time to decrease issues with territory. Because this fish is on the aggressive side, add it last so that it doesn’t stress out your shy fish as much, if you have any. Provide plenty of live rock for the fish to graze on and hide in. Although Pygmy Angelfish are much less of a problem for corals than full size angels, they are still prone to picking at corals. The frequency of this behavior depends on the specific fish, but you can try to discourage it by making sure it is fully fed.

More Information
Because this Flameback Angelfish is captive-bred by ORA, it is hardier and more resilient to disease than wild-caught specimens. It is also more accustomed to aquarium life and better able to handle the stress of shipping. You can help the ocean and help make our hobby more sustainable by purchasing captive-bred fish. Doing so discourages the harmful wild-caught trade and supports the captive-bred industry.
