For a captive marine fish or invertebrate, moving into a new aquarium home can be a profoundly stressful ordeal. Aside from steep gradients of temperature, these animals must also rapidly adjust to shifts in pH, salinity, etc. Acute stress can not only kill aquarium animals outright, but it can also suppress their immune systems and thus open the door to deadly illness further down the road. Even for relatively hardy creatures, a slow and steady acclimation can make all the difference between intense distress and a smooth, trouble-free relocation. You owe all of your captive animals the safest and least traumatic transfer possible. This kit makes acclimation simple and effective. The system includes a rigid tube that directs water through a transparent self-priming siphon bulb. Flow through the bulb is controlled with a thumb wheel rolling clamp. One squeeze of the self-priming bulb gets things going fast (while keeping aquarium water away from your hands and mouth!). The unit features a visual drip counter for precise control. Displays a constant, clearly visible drip count at eye level.

Directions and Usage:

Designate a clean bucket (or a set of clean buckets) for acclimation purposes only. Open transport container and release live specimen along with transport water into the bucket. Use one bucket for each specimen as to prevent aggression, predation and cross contamination. Set up the drip acclimation system, start the siphon and set the appropriate flow rate. Dilute transport water with aquarium water by a factor of 4-5. Remove animal with net, hand, specimen container, etc. and place directly into tank. Discard all water in the bucket. To clean the acclimation  system, flush by siphoning a small volume of clean freshwater.

Drip Rate Guideline

1-2 Drips per second: Snails, shrimp, crabs, starfish, sea anemones.

2-3 Drips per second: Anthias, gobies, butterflies, wrasses, puffers.

2-4 Drips per second: Corals and most other fish.
